Food for Geeks...I Give You...the "Poutine"

Comments

I've never heard of that kind of poutine.
Over hear *Québec*, we add brown gravy and curd cheese.
In fact, your picture, the cheese is curd not mozzarella.
Anywho, to each their own!
*and I now have this craving for Poutine *sigh* *
yeppers..your 100% correct....it's hard to go and buy curd cheese when you live in the middle of nowhere...the turkey gravey works just as well......this tastes nowhere near an original Quebec poutine...it's the poor mans poutine for those of us who don't live near there....I can remember getting a good one at McDonalds in Edmundston.
I cannot believe I made a typo on here..my goodness *smacks self*
I'm not too keen on turkey gravy so, it would of never crossed my mind to try it.
When I used to live in the states, we used to order our cheese curds from
Rock Cheese . The 5 lbs is a bit pricey but well worth it. It also freezes very easily and doesn't really loses it's taste once thawed. It is so delicious that I found my eldest * he was 4 back then* underneath my computer desk eating the whole pound of cheese. It really does squeak also ;-)
McDonald's used to make an excellent Poutine, but, they've changed their fries and isn't quite as good as before. I've never really been outside the Province of Québec while traveling in Canada, so, I wouldn't know how the other Province's are with their Poutine.

I never knew what Poutine was until I moved to Canada. I happen to really like it but it likes my hips so we just indulge on very rare occasions.
When I have had it, I live in B.C., it has been at Hockey games and A&W. Dunno why there but I guess 'cause that's where you'll most likely find me indulging. I have no idea what kind of cheese they use but the gravy always seems to be a variation on some poultry. In fact, the first time I had it, not knowing what it was, I thought it had chicken or turkey in it. Poutine was just too close to poultry to not have it in it, from my very near-sighted point of view. The only thing I know about the cheese is it's gooey and appears to be chunked. Also it's white.
There you have y definition of Poutine, Gooey, white cheese on fries with Turkey gravy.
Thanks for the rock cheese link...that's awesome. I have also used the chicken gravey mix..it tastes fine as well.....but god..you guys are making me miss home

Down here in Maryland, we eat french fries with brown gravy. My best friend, that lives in New Hampshire, talks about poutine all the time. I think I'm going to have to try that. Looks wonderfully healthy!
Ah, heart-attack-on-a-plate. Love the stuff. It was hard convincing some friends that gravy really did belong on fries (they were ok with the cheese part, having been indoctrinated by various bars towards "cheesey fries").
No problem!
All this talk of poutine and chicken as made me want a Chicken poutine.
So, in a little bit, I shall go order a chicken poutine from St-Hubert B.B.Q.
Jealous? you should be! *evil laugh*
ohhh...thats just wrong
Noooo...what would be wrong tho is taking an actual picture of it once it arrives.
hmmm *charges the batteries* =P

you are evil........what I need now as an old preist and a young priest........."The Power of Christ compels you!"

When it comes to comfort food, trust a Canadian. I have never heard of this, but will definitely try it. Okay, that's dinner. But what's for breakfast?
Pfft! your priests are nothing, they can not compel me and my Lord Poutine.....and if by any chance they do, the picture...the picture will always be there!
I even left it on the full view to make it that more tantalizing.
Now I am officially evil XD
Now I have to have a poutine, but it's with fresh cheese curds in my neck of the woods.
then curds it is
[this is extremely unhealthy but not in a way that would really bother me too much] I see two problems here. One: a medium block of cheese? Maybe when I'm back on my diet. Two: once a week? How can you stay away?
it is tough with just once a week
Oops, I forgot. I curds must squeek!
[this is good]

not sure about the cheese being curd, but the way you first describe it, with mozzarela.....yes, yes and yes...

I had fries with melted cheese and fries swimming in gravy before, but never the two combined...! I will take it into account for my next treat, I'm afraid mine can't even be once a month, but you are still youing to worry about cholesterol...enjoy!!!! :)

[this is good]
cholesterol? what is that?...
[this is good]
Gravy, Cheese AND fries - it's got to be good.
good is not the word my good man.......
